Denmark Farm Conservation Centre

Description

Denmark Farm Conservation Centre is located in the heart of rural West Wales, within easy reach of the coast, market towns and travel options, yet remote enough to see the stars, hear the leaves in the trees and enjoy the freedom of our 40 acre site.

Wildlife is at the heart of everything we do, from our campsite to our easy trails and nature-watching hides, and from our training courses to facilities for your own events.

We offer a range of opportunities for you to enjoy, learn and discover side by side with nature. It’s astonishing to realise that, 25 years ago, Denmark Farm was an intensive livestock farm, with little wildlife. Today, the natural paradise that you will find here is rich in flowers, birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other animal life. Incredibly, this restoration has been achieved by working with nature, without any major inputs or capital expense.

Come and see for yourself……if you love nature then you will love Denmark Farm!

Ecodharma Centre

Description

The Ecoharma Centre is situated in a beautiful and wild part of the Catalan Pyrenees. We offer courses, events and retreats which support the realisation of our human potential and the development of an ecological consciousness honouring our mutual belonging within the web of life – drawing on the Buddhist Dharma and the emerging ecological paradigms of our time.

Our courses and retreats take place in a context of sustainable low-impact living, closely woven within the web of elemental nature. These meditation retreats, study seminars and training camps are intended to help people to empower themselves to make changes in themselves and the world consistent with a life-affirming vision.

We seek to develop practices which honour the inseparability of the transformation of the self and the world; to support the shift from a destructive industrial growth society to a life-affirming future; to contribute to the creation of a movement of renewal and resistance; to evolve spiritual practice where courageous compassion and a deepening realisation of our radical interconnectedness helps us to live in solidarity with life.

Orchard Barn Environmental Education Centre

Description

Off grid, low-tech, award winning environmental education centre in rural Mid Suffolk - specialising in natural and traditional building courses on practical conservation projects. We source trees from local woods and clay from under our feet and use human energy/low tech approaches to convert them into useful building materials with high embodied carbon, that’s low impact on the environment. This is the way vernacular buildings were constructed. Every part of our buildings could be reused. In fact, much of our timber frame is already on its second and third life. We are learning from the past how to create a greener future.

Our compost toilet facilities are in the old orchard. We harvest rainwater off our roof. We use a bike-powered generator to power up presentations.

Orchard Barn is run by OBee Community Interest Company who over the last seven years have run conservation courses that have enabled them to renovate the 17th century timber frame barn. All 20,000 oak shingles on our new roof were hand-cleft on site. We’ve also hand-made cob walls, beaten earth floors, wattle and daub walls and clay/lime render.

At Orchard Barn, we offer hobby, professional, community and bespoke courses.

See www.orchardbarn.org.uk for course programme.
