The BrookLodge Hotel and Macreddin Village aims to help build the future for sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism. As an industry leader we strive to consistently maintain and update our reduction, reuse, recycling and energy-saving policies, as well as promote the sale of local organic products which are grown naturally and traded fairly.

How our ethos works:

  • Phosphate free cleaning agents used in all departments
  • All effluent treated on site
  • Low energy & low wattage bulbs used in the building
  • Power key card savers in all bedrooms
  • Cardboard & paper bailed and re-cycled
  • Glass waste collected to be recycled
  • Locally sourced seasonal Certified Organic ingredients
  • West facing aspect to enhance solar gain and promote passive heating in the rooms
  • Highly insulated building with high performance double glazed timber windows and doors
  • Individual heating in all guest rooms to eliminate waste heat.

Hotel Facts & Figures:

  • To avoid unnecessary landfill, the hotel has purchased a biodigester
  • All wet food waste is sent to Co. Louth to be processed into biofuel for the generation of electricity without the use of fossil fuels
  • The Hotel invests heavily in organic producers (currently in excess of €1 million per annum)
  • Calculated savings on the use of chemicals (pesticides and fertilizers) by just one local organic farm supplying vegetables to the Hotel is in excess of nine tonnes per annum.
