Barracks Lane Community Garden Project

Barracks Lane Community Garden is a community-run green space off the Cowley Road in Cowley/East Oxford. The space the garden now inhabits has been transformed by local effort from a toxic waste-filled old garage site into a beautiful garden open to all to visit and enjoy. The garden is open to the community to drop-in during weekends (11am-5pm, March to October). It regularly holds community events and workshops, including seed and plant swaps, a harvest festival, and our annual bonfire night celebration. The garden can also be booked for private use for a range of events, from children’s parties and meetings, to yoga and craft workshops.

The garden has a range of facilities including a meeting space (a lovely wooden cabin with wood fired stove), tandoor and cob ovens, a green roof, solar pv, a wildlife hotel and pond, and a wheelchair accessible compost toilet. The garden is a registered charity managed and run by the local community.
