The Manor House Stables

The restoration of this 18th-century, Grade II-listed stable block has been achieved using all natural, earth-friendly materials, local builders and traditional methods. There are two units of quality self-catering accommodation which can be rented separately or together. Both units have exposed beams, lime-washed walls and wood-burning stoves. The first floor 'Hayloft' (sleeps four) is relaxing and welcoming with a spacious open plan living/kitchen whilst the ground floor 'Bothy' (sleeps three) is warm and cosy with direct access to a small private garden. Special care has been made to make 'The Bothy' as wheelchair-friendly as possible.

The stable walls are insulated with cotton, hemp or wood fibre and below the ground floor lies layers of insulating limecrete and recycled glass. Natural and environmentally-friendly paints and wood finishes have been used throughout the building and the hot water, underfloor heating and cast iron radiators are fuelled by a wood pellet boiler and solar panels. Natural materials have been used everywhere. Real wood floors are covered with braided wool rugs and recycled cotton mats. Fabrics are soft and natural and colours are warm and earthy. The luxury mattresses are made of organic Welsh wool, the sheets are cotton (mostly organic) and the beds covered in linen bedspreads or cotton quilts. Silk curtains hang in the Bothy bedroom and wood shutters keep the light out of the Hayloft.
