Yurtworks

Description

With burning log fires and big open skies on the edge of Bodmin Moor the yurts are in a beautiful spot. Leaving your car behind, you come out on foot through the oaks and gorse to a view of north Cornwall that stretches from moor to sea. Following a meandering path for 120 metres down unspoilt natural heathland, lined with blue bells and wood anemones in May and tormentil and rosebay willow herb in summer, you emerge through an archway of gnarly Cornish oaks into a small sheltered field.

The yurts have heating and simple cooking facilities (wood) provided. Local organic produce is available from the farm and other local producers and the village shop and pub are within easy walking distance.

Yurtworks also runs Wildworks Bushcraft Courses at South Penquite Farm throughout the summer, running weekly Bushcraft days there for all the family. Yurts can also be built to order and are available to hire.

Mazzard Farm Holiday Cottages

Description

Seven miles from sleepy Sidmouth, at the foot of East Hill, are 17 acres of old apple farm. Among tipis, hens, farmhouse, gardens, play areas and a big communal courtyard with picnic tables are six cottages, which sleep between 2 and 10 (24 in total). Pure heaven for all the family. It's pampering too, thanks to owner Jacqueline's treatments: Indian head massages, Japanese facials and reflexology.

Quarenden Cottage, the former apple store, is the largest in the row, beautifully cared for inside and out. You get sweeping oak floors and a huge leather sofa, fashionable florals and a wood-burning stove, atmospheric lighting and courtyard views. Bathrooms have fabulous fittings and delicious local soaps, the open-plan kitchen is a cook's delight and the bedrooms fit under the eaves. The owners – keen greenies, foodies too – live in the farmhouse and Jacqueline makes marmalade, lemon curd, apple juice and fruit crumbles in season; there's also meat from the farm next door.

Choose from their great list of attractions: the Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy Adventure Park, the Jurassic Coast Hopper, or sign up to an onsite cookery or photography course.

The Nut Plat Retreat

Description

The Nut Plat Retreat is a holiday home from home for those who relish the idea of sleeping in the Great British Countryside in 'Ransoms', our bijou and boutique Living Van.

Set in the beautiful Kent Countryside, the accommodation is a 1904 living van kitted out to satisfy all your needs for a luxury weekend (or longer!) break.

We've tried to supply you with everything we think you'll need for a peaceful rural retreat. The only neighbours you'll have here are our pet lambs.

There is a full size double bed in the van, a fold down table and chairs and games and a pack of cards to keep you entertained in the evening.

Kent is known as the Garden of England for good reason and The Nut Plat in Roughway is a historic ‘orchard’ of ancient cob nut trees. Running alongside the River Bourne in the Garden of England, the Nut Plat is on the edge of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We think the hamlet of Roughway is unique – less than an hour from the centre of London and yet you can hardly hear a car let alone a train and you rarely ever hear an aeroplane (unless it’s using the open sky for acrobatics).

The Manor House Stables

Description

The restoration of this 18th-century, Grade II-listed stable block has been achieved using all natural, earth-friendly materials, local builders and traditional methods. There are two units of quality self-catering accommodation which can be rented separately or together. Both units have exposed beams, lime-washed walls and wood-burning stoves. The first floor 'Hayloft' (sleeps four) is relaxing and welcoming with a spacious open plan living/kitchen whilst the ground floor 'Bothy' (sleeps three) is warm and cosy with direct access to a small private garden. Special care has been made to make 'The Bothy' as wheelchair-friendly as possible.

The stable walls are insulated with cotton, hemp or wood fibre and below the ground floor lies layers of insulating limecrete and recycled glass. Natural and environmentally-friendly paints and wood finishes have been used throughout the building and the hot water, underfloor heating and cast iron radiators are fuelled by a wood pellet boiler and solar panels. Natural materials have been used everywhere. Real wood floors are covered with braided wool rugs and recycled cotton mats. Fabrics are soft and natural and colours are warm and earthy. The luxury mattresses are made of organic Welsh wool, the sheets are cotton (mostly organic) and the beds covered in linen bedspreads or cotton quilts. Silk curtains hang in the Bothy bedroom and wood shutters keep the light out of the Hayloft.

Qbic London City Hotel

Description

Qbic is an urban hospitality experience that refuses to bow down to urban hospitality convention. A new type of hotel defined as much by playful convenience as by a lightness of style. An urban refuge for the open-minded traveller who believes clean rooms and comfortable beds are no longer unique selling points, but basic human rights. Because an urban hotel should embrace the energy and lightness that surround it not keep them at bay. It shouldn’t try to mimic home, but deliver an exhilarating local experience that isn’t at all like home.

The battle for lower and lower prices has turned hotel rooms into an expendable commodity. They are just places to lay your head. To survive and thrive, we have to add new values to the equation. Up the ante with something entirely new and exciting. We believe the competitive advantage lies in cultivating relationships with our guests – relationships that go beyond just us being hotelier. Adding value through enthusiasm, affection and local knowledge. By being otherworldly attentive to their needs and cultivating local expertise through knowledge and collaboration with local heroes.

There are enough places to just your head, Qbic wants to be the place people come back continually to hand their hat and have a good time.

Hide Cottage

Description

Set right on the riverside, with stunning views out over the river, marsh and grazing, Hide Cottage is a quiet getaway on the Norfolk Broads. Located in the 3000-acre Upper Thurne Nature Reserve (SSSI) it is ideal for bird and wildlife watching, boating, fishing or just relaxing away from it all.

Hide Cottage is accessible only by boat or a short 400-yard walk, which ensures a truly peaceful break in one of the most delightful and historic spots on the Norfolk Broads and benefits from being above the ancient Potter Heigham bridge, which keeps 95% of the river traffic at bay, leaving you just the traditional broads sailing cruisers and the occasional fisherman.

We take our eco credentials very seriously at Hide Cottage and offer much more than just warm words. Solar panels, a wood burner, organic and Fairtrade bed linen, natural cleaning products, an organic and local food hamper and an electric boat are just some of the ways in which we are trying to reduce the impact of your stay with us.

The cottage sleeps five in two rooms and is perfect for Autumn and Winter holidays, as well as summer sailing or walking breaks.
