Green Cross International

Description

The mission of Green Cross International, founded by Mikhail Gorbachev, is to help secure a future for all by fostering a shift in values and cultivating a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility in humanity's relationship with nature.

GCI responds to the combined challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation to ensure a sustainable and secure future. The non-profit organisation seeks solutions through dialogue, mediation and co-operation by:

  • promoting legal, ethical and behavioural norms that ensure basic changes in the values, actions and attitudes of government, the private sector and civil society, necessary to develop a sustainable global community;
  • contributing to the prevention and resolution of conflicts arising from environmental degradation;
  • providing assistance to people affected by the environmental consequences of wars, conflicts and man made calamities.

The organisation conducts projects in three main areas:

  • preventing and resolving conflicts over natural resources;
  • adressing the environmental consequences of wars and conflicts;
  • promoting legal and ethical norms for a sustainable future.
