Jekka’s Herb Farm

Description

Owned by Chelsea Flower Show gold-medalist, Jekka McVicar, Jekka’s Herb Farm is a leading herb mail order specialist with the largest collection of culinary herbs in the UK. The farm holds Open Days as well as exhibiting at the main RHS Flower shows. Also runs events and courses on herb cultivation and herb garden design.

Jekka’s Herbetum, was created in the grounds of Jekka's Herb Farm in 2013, with the aim to inspire today's visitor and to ensure that the history, culinary and medicinal usage of herbs are not lost for future generations. This ‘living encyclopedia of herbs' is a unique interactive experience for herb and plant lovers of all ages.

Displaying the largest collection of culinary herbs in the UK, the Herbetum is not only a wonderful resource for plant identification but also a gastronomic delight for anyone interested in good food. The Herbetum contains over 300 culinary herbs carefully planted in raised beds, enabling visitors to walk amongst not only British native herbs but also the more unusual tropical varieties.

The herbs in the Herbetum are all propagated and trialled at Jekka’s Herb Farm, and grown for the British Garden. Visitors are able to purchase from the traditional to the rarer variety of herbs that they have just discovered.

The farm now offers groups - gardeners, cooks and herb enthusiasts - the opportunity to book private guided tours of our herbetum, hosted by Jekka McVicar.

Jekka was awarded the Garden Media Guild, Lifetime Achievement Award; ‘for services to horticulture, design, education and communication and excellence in the field of organic herb growing.’ (December 2012)
