Cloughjordan Eco-village

Description

Cloughjordan Ecovillage is an eco-neighbourhood located in Cloughjordan, a town in rural Ireland. Developed by Sustainable Projects Ireland Ltd, a not for profit company, educational charity and national NGO, this project has a strong emphasis on economic, social and environmental sustainability.

Pioneering low carbon housing, renewable energy and biodiversity enhancement the Cloughjordan Ecovilage is demonstrating how we can create healthy environments to live, work and learn in. Already the ecovillage has attracted over 65 families from different backgrounds to Cloughjordan and has space for more. With its community woodlands, CSA farm, award-winning bakery, eco-hostel, research gardens and a green enterprise centre, the project is providing a model for the transition to a low carbon society. The ecovillage has an ecological footprint of 2 gHa (recently measured), which is well below the Irish and European average.

Cloughjordan’s eco neighbourhood is demonstrating a collective approach to making our villages, towns, and city neighbourhoods green and more sustainable, and is already a destination for learning with regular courses in eco design, green building, permaculture and community resilience now held. We are always looking for new residents, host a diverse range of courses and offer free tours every weekend, so do consider visiting us.

Eco Chateau

Description

A co-housing and eco holiday project based in a 17th-century chateau in France. We are inviting people to join us to create a self-sufficient community - self-sufficient in energy, food and water, ideas, education and development. And we aim to teach these skills and ideas to as many people as possible.

The chateau, set on the edge of a small hamlet, is a 17th-century ‘maison forte’, full of wonderful original furniture, history and comforts. It sleeps 20 people on a self-catering basis.

We are building affordable strawbale eco-homes on our 13 hectare property with beautiful communal areas and facilities within the chateau and barns. We are also creating a small independent alternative energy & technology centre, a media centre, an arts centre, a community school and a healing centre.

Options include volunteering with free board & lodging, purchasing a co-housing share, or taking a holiday.
