Quantum Photovoltaics Group

Description

Undertakes research into photovoltaic devices, including high-efficiency quantum well cells, quantum dot concentrators and smart windows.

In 2007 co-founded a UK company, QuantaSol Ltd which exploited the quantum well technology. QuantaSol triple junction cells achieved 40% efficiency in production, certification by the leading US concentrator manufacturing company and 1MW of orders. In July 2011 QuantaSol was sold against the founders wishes to a major Silicon Valley semiconductor manufacturer JDSU.
