Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Description

The Forest Stewardship Council’s ‘tick tree’ logo is used on product labels to indicate whether they are certified under the FSC system. When you see the FSC logo on a label you can buy timber and other forest products, such as paper, with the confidence that you are not contributing to the destruction of the world’s forests. FSC-certified products are made with material from forests, independently certified as being managed to an internationally agreed set of social, economic and environmental principles and criteria and/or verified recycled sources.

FSC-certified products are widely available in the UK, from garden decking, charcoal and garden furniture to wallpaper, bathroom tissue, footballs (made with natural latex) and kitchen equipment. These can be found in many high street stores and most major DIY shops, including B&Q, Wickes and Homebase, Sainsbury’s, The Co-operative, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Argos. Many small, independent retailers also stock FSC-certified products. FSC-certified paper and board is increasingly used for packaging, catalogues, direct mail and general office and home use, in the UK even 1st and 2nd class postage stamps are now FSC certified.
