Low Carbon Trust

The Low Carbon Trust was established to increase awareness about the links between buildings that people live and work in, the carbon dioxide emissions that are produced by this and the resulting climate change.

The two main approaches we use are innovative community construction projects and extensive communications work. Our first project was Earthship Brighton which was the first Earthship to be built in England.

Earthships are 'green' buildings, constructed using waste car tyres and other recycled materials. They use the planets natural systems to provide all utilities - using the sun's energy and rain to provide heat, power and water. They are buildings that heat and cool themselves, harvest their own water and use plants to treat their sewage.

From our extensive experience of Earthship Brighton and other projects the Low Carbon Trust offers a full sustainable construction consultancy service. This includes advice on a variety of topics from site selection, to building orientation, to design of the renewable energy and rainwater harvesting systems, to energy efficiency and water conservation measures, to passive solar design and the choice and selection of low impact materials and building techniques.

The Low Carbon Trust also offers tours of our projects, education and training courses.
