Event Description

A unique day of interactive and participatory learning to build your confidence as facilitator or workshop leader. You'll be required to think deeply about what it means to be a facilitator and challenged to come up with your own solutions and techniques.

We will look closely at what facilitation is, the role facilitators may play and how facilitating can encourage long term community development. It will build the confidence of anyone keen to be a good facilitator and give them a solid basis on which to develop their own skills.

People attending this course will learn how to:

  • How and when to hold meetings and when to use other approaches
  • Build a working relationship with an existing organisation or a group of individuals
  • Use appropriate tools and techniques
  • Develop facilitation work in ways appropriate to a range of diverse communities
  • Deal with problematic situations
  • Evaluate facilitated processes
  • Develop their communications skills

Who should attend this course?
The event will benefit anyone working with groups of people in formal or informal settings. Whether a novice starting out, or an experienced facilitator wishing to expand on their techniques, the course will provide a valuable insight into good facilitation. People that have already taken our 'Advanced Facilitation' course will also benefit greatly from the practical 'tools and techniques' covered in the day.

About the Organiser

Talk Action
Provides everything from a speaker on a sustainability issue to the event management for a major green festival or conference. Also runs specialist courses on climate change communication and can supply everything from solar power generators, pedal-powered cinemas and recycled art workshops to inspirational speakers on green and social issues.

Talk Action values social justice and environmental sustainability. We promote equality, opportunity, diversity and a healthy environment for communities in both urban and rural settings.

We think quality of life is more important than quantity of income. So we operate on a non-hierarchical/cooperative system and question all types of economic, environmental and social injustice.
