Get Involved with WWF Scotland

By giving us some of your time to help us with our campaign work, you can help us change laws and influence decision makers in Scotland to make the world a better place for people and wildlife. Full support and training is provided.

Eight ways to make a difference:
1. Join our mailing list
Learn more about our campaigning activities and ways you can get involved though our quarterly newsletter.

2. Become an online campaigner
Become a WWF online campaigner and achieve real change on environmental issues by lobbying decision makers by email from your home computer.

3. Recruit online campaigners
Help swell the growing numbers of WWF online campaigners in Scotland by recruiting new online campaigners within your community.

4. Be a footprint volunteer
By measuring your own ecological footprint on our footprint calculator and telling us about your lifestyle choices, we may be able to use your story in our campaign work.

5. Make your voice heard:
By writing letters to decision makers or visiting your MSP or Councillor, you can influence environmental policies that affect you and your family.

6. Talk to the public at events:
Spread the word about our campaigns and encourage people to get involved at events throughout Scotland. We’re looking to recruit new volunteers to work with us during 2008.

7. Give presentations:
Do you have a good speaking voice and experience of giving presentations? Then become a WWF Scotland presenter and talk to people in your community about our work.

8. Join WWF:
For as little as £3 a month you can help support our vital campaign work to ensure a healthy future for people and nature.

Key examples of WWF Scotland’s work include:
Ecological Footprint
If everyone lived like we do in Scotland, we would need three planets to survive. Our Local Footprints project enables local authorities to reduce the footprints of the residents and businesses in their area through the Ecological Footprint approach.

Climate Change
Climate change is the most serious environmental issue to face our planet. We are working to raise awareness in Scotland about the causes and impacts of climate change and the available solutions – particularly the role of renewable energy sources. We are also part of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, a coalition of organisations who have joined together to influence political action to stop human-induced climate change.

Freshwater
We work to protect Scotland’s stunningly beautiful rivers, lochs and wetlands which are important for wildlife as well as the social and economic wellbeing of the country.

We influence legislation, such as the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, manage demonstration sites in sustainable flood management, such as on the River Devon, and by providing advice and guidance to farmers on ways to reduce diffuse agricultural pollution.

Marine
Scotland’s seas and coasts are home to an amazing range of marine wildlife and habitats, from sheltered sea lochs and grassy seabeds to exposed rocky reefs and towering underwater seamounts.

We are working to promote the sustainable management of our marine resources – for example through demonstration projects such as the Clyde Fisheries Development Project and by campaigning for a Marine Act for Scotland.

Education
We work with decision-makers in the Scottish Parliament and Executive, so that learning for sustainability features prominently in policy making. We work with Scottish schools on demonstration projects to show how sustainable development can be embedded in all of their activities and provide teachers with training and resources to deliver sustainable development education.
