Stratford and The Olympic Games: A Lasting Legacy

Event Description

Six months on, this day will explore the past, present and future impact of London 2012. Starting at View Tube for a panoramic view of the site before working our way around the Olympic Park. There will be plenty of time for discussion including the impacts on the local people, environment and economy.

The Olympic Games has kick started a regeneration process in East London. The day will focus on Stratford and the Olympic Park. Starting at View Tube the panoramic view across the site will allow us to put into context the different buildings. Read more »

London Butterflies

This course provides an introduction to butterfly natural history, identification and conservation. Using a mix of indoor activities and presentations, plus fieldwork observing butterflies in there natural habitats in Bushy Park.

Urban Botany

Event Description

Urban botany explores the rich mix of native and non-native plants in unusual habitats throughout Greenwich Park.

It is aimed at people who have a keen interest in plants or just want to know more. The course will focus on identifying plant species and understanding the recent changes in urban botany.

Conservation and Management of Deer in Bushy Park

Event Description

An enjoyable introduction to deer. This is a rare opportunity to observe the deer in Bushy Park with an experienced Wildlife Officer who will share their knowledge of the wildlife of Bushy Park, specifically the Red and Fallow Deer. Duties associated with managing an open access park will be discussed.

John Comfort has worked for The Royal Parks for over 28 years and is Senior Wildlife Officer for Bushy Park, Richmond Park and Greenwich Park.

It is also important for the development of better policy and practice, for understanding local needs and developing more sustainable communities.

This interactive course will look closely at the roles a facilitator may play and how a facilitator’s role can encourage long term community development. The Lea Valley Walk: Lea Bridge to Three Mills

Event Description

This 3 mile walk follows the Lea Valley industrial heritage and natural history. Blends together the old industrial era with the regeneration of Stratford and the Olympic Park.

This course will be based outside for most of the day. There are cafes or shops along the way but we advise participants to bring along a pack lunch.

There is no public parking at this site. We will send participants information about the walk and how best to find us.

Eggs-cellent Easter Puppets

Bird Watching

Event Description

From the beautiful Herne to escaped Parakeets, come and discover the birds of Bushy Park. On this one day course you will observe and identify birds in their natural habitats.

There will be an expert on hand to help you identify key characteristics of the birds in Bushy Park.

You will be able identify the invasive species from the native species of birds, which allowed them to successfully adapt to the different habitats within the Park.
