Toyota's Mirai: the future of fuel cell vehicles

Toyota will launch its all-new Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in Japan on 15 December, before introducing it in the UK and other selected European markets in 2015. Mirai – the name means future in Japanese – signals the start of a new age of vehicles. Vauxhall Motors signs long term contract with vehicle recycling company Autogreen

The contract ensures that all Vauxhall vehicles handled by Autogreen that have reached the end of their life are disposed of and recycled using the very latest, most environmentally friendly methods and meeting the legislative requirements set out in the European End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive.

Vauxhall has been working with recyclable materials (recyclates) in its vehicles since 1990 and now thanks to its Design for Recycling strategy, more than 200 recyclates are used across the range allowing it to use 45,000 tons of recycled materials in new vehicles every year. Read more »

The number of Toyota hybrids sold moves past six million, as sales speed up

While electric car sales may not be lighting up the world, the steady progress of Toyota's hybrid power technology has reached another landmark with cumulative global sales of Toyota hybrid vehicles reaching 6.072 million units at the end of December 2013.

SEAT al Sol project makes the Martorell plant a production efficiency pioneer

SEAT has completed the largest solar panel installation in the motoring industry. The SEAT al Sol (SEAT Sun) project, the third and final phase of which was completed this November, has seen the Spanish company install 53,000 solar panels at its manufacturing plant, covering a 270,000 square metre area - equivalent to 40 football pitches. The ZOE, the flagship of Renault's electric vehicle range, has been chosen as overall winner in the latest Green Apple Awards presented at the Houses of Parliament on Monday 11th November 2013.

European motorists are turning greener: one in three would spend more to buy an eco car

One in three Europeans would spend more to buy an environmentally friendly car even though 71 per cent say they have reduced overall spending as a result of the economic recession, a Ford-sponsored poll shows.

The survey also shows 53 per cent consider climate change to be the world’s biggest issue and 57 per cent would prefer to lead a more environmentally conscious lifestyle. Read more »

Volvo steps up production of the world's first diesel plug-in hybrid
