Reforesting Scotland

Description

Reforesting Scotland’s mission is to raise awareness of Scotland’s deforested state; to encourage ecological restoration, to bring Scotland’s damaged landscape back to health; and to help reconnect Scotland’s forests with their local communities, increasing community involvement and encouraging new opportunities for rural development. It seeks to fulfil this mission through its members, projects, promotional activities and links with other organisations.

The Green Team

Description

Provides local, low-cost residential and day programme opportunities for 14-25 year olds in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The weekend programme offers a chance to participate in practical conservation work, environmental education and adventure activities. The key to the work is having fun in the natural world and caring for the environment by positive action. Offers participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the John Muir Award.

Royal Highland Education Trust

Description

An educational charity, established in 1999. RHET aims to create the opportunity for each child in Scotland to learn about food and farming and to ensure a wider understanding of the environmental, economic and social realities of the countryside in Scotland. Its key activites include farm visits for schools and other young people's groups, farmer speakers and resource production.

John Muir Award

Description

The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focussed on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. It is non-competitive and open to all. The John Muir Award is the educational initiative of the John Muir Trust.
