Chernobyl Children's Project (UK)

Description

Charity which brings children from the Chernobyl-affected region of Belarus to the UK for recuperative holidays. Also delivers humanitarian aid to hospitals and children's homes in the region, organises exchanges of medical staff and special needs teachers, helps to facilitate independent living for young disabled people, and is involved in setting up a fostering system to get children with disabilities out of orphanages. Donations welcome, as is anyone interested in fund-raising or in providing accommodation for Belarussian children during the summer holidays.

Women's Environmental Network (WEN)

Description

WEN is the only organisation in the UK working consistently for women and the environment, campaigning on environmental and health issues from a woman's perspective. It provides information on positive alternatives for a more sustainable lifestyle. It is a membership charity with a quarterly newsletter and UK-wide network of local groups.

Open Spaces Society

Description

The Open Spaces Society was founded in 1865 and is Britain’s oldest national conservation body. We campaign to protect common land, village greens, open spaces, public paths and the public’s right to enjoy them. We are a statutory consultee and also give advice to local authorities and the public.
