The 'Friends' were formed in 1990. Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is truly the historic green heart of Tower Hamlets. 33 acres of Broad leaf woodland in a disused 19th century cemetery, surrounded by tower blocks and estates, where 1000s of people live. Peckham Coal Line

Description

The Coal Line aims to re-connect Peckham’s neighbourhoods by creating a new linear link park between Queens Road Peckham & Rye Lane by using the disused Rickett coal sidings which were decommissioned in the 1950’s. The 1km elevated urban park would cut through the heavily built up ex-industrial area providing a precious green open space; a place to enjoy nature, amble, cycle, relax or play.

The project is in early concept stage but is already starting to grow new local networks of local people working together to turn the idea into reality.
