Ashurst Organics veg box scheme started in 1994 as a Community Supported venture organised by Common Cause Co-operative - a social enterprise based in Lewes, East Sussex.

When Peter and Collette Haynes took on Ashurst Farm from the White brothers (Alec & Horace) they were able to obtain instant organic status from the Soil Association as the brothers had never used chemicals or "any such nonsense" since 1945 (they had also been hand milking cows right up until 1993). Chequers Kitchen Cookery School

Description

A social enterprise on a mission to teach people to cook from scratch with fresh ingredients. We offer recreational cookery classes such as bread making, Italian and Thai cooking, as well as free and subsidised classes for those who are disadvantaged. Our specialist courses include cooking for Type 2 diabetes, heart healthy cooking, classes for unemployed people to gain skills for the catering industry, lessons for young people preparing to leave care, and more.

Host Café

Description

We serve direct trade coffee hand roasted by Mission Coffee Works. We brew loose leaf teas from We Are Tea, our pastries are delivered via bicycle from the Little Bread Pedlar and cakes come from Artisan Foods.

Organic soup with sourdough bread is available between 11 and 3, and we also have homemade Mushroom and Walnut paté and Beans and Sundried Tomato paté. Local Food (& More!) Co-operative

Description

We are a community run co-operative, hosting our green café at weekends from May to September. Adjacent to the Flitch Way, the café serves delicious locally sourced food (lots grown on our site) and drink (including our own label Honey Beer!).

We are not-for-profit and run by volunteers who operate the café, a bike hire facility and our horticulture project.
